And here is a bit of knowledge from almanac.com
The wearing of birthstones is thought to bring good luck and good health. Astrologers long ago attributed supernatural powers to certain gemstones.
The birthstones we associate with certain months now are not necessarily the same ones as in ancient times. Once, color was the most important feature of a stone. Ancients did not distinguish between a ruby and a garnet, for example.
The names used in history may not relate to the stone we think of with that name today.
For example, a sapphire in the Bible was probably what we know today as lapis.
Diamonds were probably a white sapphire or white topaz.
The stones originally assigned to each month related to the stones appearing on the breastplate of a Jewish high priest.
Birthstone Meanings by Month
January’s birthstone, the garnet, is thought to keep the wearer safe during travel.
February’s birthstone, the amethyst, is said to strengthen relationships and give its wearer courage. At one time, only royalty could wear the gem. Ancient Greeks thought that the amethyst guarded against intoxication. In fact, amethyst comes from amethystos, a Greek word meaning “sober.”
March’s birthstone, the aquamarine, was thought to cure heart, liver, and stomach diseases—all one had to do was drink the water in which the gem had been soaking. Early sailors believed that aquamarine talismans, etched with the likeness of the sea god Neptune, protected them against ocean dangers.
April’s birthstone, the diamond, in addition to being a symbol of everlasting love, was once thought to bring courage. In Sanskrit, the diamond is called “vajra,” which also means lightning; in Hindu mythology, vajra was the weapon of Indra, the king of gods.
May’s birthstone, the emerald, was one of Cleopatra’s favorite gems. It has long been associated with fertility, rebirth, and love. Ancient Romans went so far as to dedicate this stone to Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Today, it is thought that emeralds signify wisdom, growth, and patience.
June’s birthstone, the pearl, has long been a symbol of purity. The ancient Greeks believed that pearls were the hardened tears of joy from Aphrodite, the goddess of love.
July’s birthstone, the ruby, was regarded by ancient Hindus as the “king of gems.” It was believed to protect its wearer from evil. Today, the ruby’s deep-red color signifies love and passion.
August’s birthstone, the peridot, symbolizes strength. It is sometimes called the evening emerald for its light green color. It was once believed that the green peridot crystals found in volcanic ashes were the tears of the volcano goddess, Pele. When set in gold, this gem was said to protect the wearer from nightmares.
September’s birthstone, the sapphire, was once thought to guard against evil and poisoning. It was believed that a venomous snake would die if placed in a vessel made of sapphire. Traditionally a favorite stone of priests and kings, the sapphire symbolizes purity and wisdom.
October’s birthstone, the opal, symbolizes faithfulness and confidence. The word comes from the Latin opalus, meaning “precious jewel.” Necklaces with opals set in them were worn to repel evil and to protect eyesight.
November’s birthstone, the topaz, symbolizes love and affection. It is believed to give the wearer increased strength and intellect.
December’s birthstone, turquoise, is regarded as a love charm. It is also a symbol of good fortune and success, and it is believed to relax the mind and to protect its wearer from harm. Turquoise rings, in particular, are thought to keep away evil spirits.

Read on below for a few quick holiday de-stress tips and my favorite crystals to keep around, just for the most wonderful time of the year……
If you haven’t looked at your calendar lately, the holidays are HERE! Moments of joy, laughter, abundance and love will hopefully grace us all over the next few weeks. Sure to be followed (or preceding) with depletion, stress, aggravation, sarcasm, and maybe even jealousy.
So, how do we stay in the ‘green’ zone and open up to all the good feelings while feeling less of the red, energy sucking symptoms?
The first thing, is to acknowledge your red feelings. Yes, be aware, of those red zone emotions that bubble up inside us all from time to time. Trying to block them and just push them out is exactly the OPPOSITE of what I’d like you to do.
What has worked for me in the past, is facing them (the negative feelings) head on. Instead of running away (not attending that family function with the uncle who makes your skin crawl) or masking what you are feeling with alcohol, drugs or whatever your vice is, or my personal favorite: pretending like everything is honkey-dorey, (rainbows and unicorns!) in front of others (while you are falling apart and want to scream inside) here’s what you should do:
When you are feeling not so warm and fuzzy inside, acknowledge it. Breathe. Recognize that the feeling is there and (yes) honor it. Understand that everyone has those moments. Even if their Christmas card and Facebook posts beg to differ.
Be proactive. Try to think back to what triggered it (that icky feeling). For example, is your perfect BFF with her perfect husband and perfect kids and Pottery Barn home and abundance of wealth and money (that she doesn’t have to work for) bringing you down? Then try to steer clear, if you can. Recognize, that you may in fact, a little jealous. And it’s ok. You can still spend time with your BFF and not have to be absorbed by HER entire life and atmosphere and stare at all that perfection. Maybe, this year you go out for that holiday drink instead of lingering for hours in her perfect, magazine worthy home. And if she can’t meet up, then wait it out until she can. Is that family member who makes your skin crawl going to corner you all night like a fly on honey? Then be proactive. Position yourself some place where that can’t happen. And if it does, you can’t be surprised (because you have anticipated the moment) so politely, excuse yourself after a few minutes from their presence. It’s not rude, it’s self-care emotion management!
Let it pass. Those feelings (when they do pass) should flow right through you just as easily as they flowed to you. Keep in mind that every moment and every person that crosses your path is a lesson. Even though you can’t see it yet, they are there (in your bubble) for a reason. After you’ve acknowledged the emotion, breathe. Then picture that bad emotion or energy just passing right by, like the wind. Through your entire body. What happens when we get angry? That energy gets stuck IN our field and messes up the whole show by throwing us out of whack. Let it come, acknowledge it, then let it pass.
Visualization helps a lot. Even just a moment to yourself or separating yourself from the big family crowd can give you what you need to refocus, realign, and feel (more) happy. Also, try to remind yourself that you probably don’t see many of these people or feel these ‘holiday’ feelings all the time. Try to shift focus on the gratitude, and the moments you do have with drunk uncle. Have some fun with it, make light and see if you can’t get a laugh out of the situation. Don’t dismiss or cover up those red feelings. They are the green feelings that are disguised, that will one day, turn to gold.
5 Crystals to help increase the Good Holiday Energy (and keep around the home!)
Blue Lace Agate- is a very calming and soothing stone. Keep around the home to reduce family quarrels and open the lines of communication. It tends to lessen anger and calm nervousness. It’s light blue/purple color works well activating the throat chakra (known for opening lines of communication) and reaches up to harness energies of a higher power. It is a gentle, but protective stone.
Citrine-is a sunshine-y stone great for attracting wealth, health and abundance. It’s dubbed the “success” and “merchant’s stone” as it helps to magnify and amplify personal power and energy. (A fantastic gift for entrepreneurs!) It’s yellow color associates this stone with the 3rd (solar plexus) chakra: the hub of our personal power and intuition. Family issues caused by negative energies can be cleared out with a little bit of citrine. Citrine is actually a healing stone for the stomach and digestive system (anxiety, anyone?) and brings happiness and joy to those who wear it. Place a piece near where you keep your paperwork or bills or even place in your coin purse to attract money!
Malachite- is an excellent stone to send to your loved ones, as it protects from accidents and when traveling. It is bright green in color and especially a great stone to protect children. It is said that malachite is reflective, and mirrors the souls emotions. Therefore, try not to wear if you are already in a bad mood, however keep around if you are in a very good mood to keep the energy going. It’s a stone to place under your pillow if you are having nightmares or trouble sleeping.
Rose Quartz- is excellent for love and communication. It’s light pink and associated with the heart chakra. Keep in common living spaces or bedrooms because it omits a strong but gentle vibration for unconditional love, youth and healing. This stone is known to help stimulate romance, rekindle happiness and bring faith and hope.
Smokey Quartz- is best for absorbing negative/unwanted energies. It offers protection from many types of negativity in the environment. Place at entryway/doorway for visitors coming in with bad moods! If you are feeling ungrounded, ‘flighty’ or unbalanced, keep a piece of smokey quartz on or around to help bring you back down to earth. Keep by your desk computer to absorb electromagnetic energy!
Honorable Mention: Clear Quartz is one of the easiest crystals to use and program. It is one of the most common and inexpensive crystals to find and is considered a master healing stone. It amplifies and reprograms or charges other crystals which are in the vicinity. Great for humans, pets and even will help plants and gardens flourish. The stone will aid in spiritual growth and allow the energy in the room to just, flow.

Being that I’m shipping out tons of Frozen-inspired love for small souls this month, I thought it only be natural that I continued with a ‘Frozen’ inspired day and night bracelet for Balance Box subscribers!
White christmas, winter solstice, I dunno. I just automatically think creamy, glistening white. And even though we are nearing the end of the year, in an interesting way I think new beginnings. Maybe because January will be here before you know it. Maybe, because December is a time for me to wind down, slow down and enjoy my family and life for a few warm and cozy weeks.
The Winter Night themed bracelet consisted of: hematite, black czech glass, silver druzy, gray agate and in some, a dash or two of hemimorphite.
The Winter Day bracelet consisted of: moonstone (plated) crystal beads, milk glass, snow crystal clear beads and raw blue calcite. Some also had the silver druzy, depending on size of beads overall.
Each month, Sapphire Soul Large (Lotus) box subscribers receive a piece of crystal healing jewelry with their box. It typically is a hand beaded gem bracelet, however I’ve been able to include earrings, and pendants as well. January subscribers will be receiving an extra special treat to bring in the good vibes around their necks: a Third Eye Pinecone pendant! These are beautiful, hand-crafted pieces of jewelry that are pretty pricey, so I’m ecstatic to be able to include one in a box!
If you received a bracelet in your large box, look below to find the meaning and purpose behind the gems. Wear your good vibes and pay the energy forward- the world needs you to!
Gray Agate: Aids in seeking hidden truths and is a grounding stone. (Note: most dark/black/brown/red stones are associated with the 1st (root) chakra and are considered very good grounding stones.) Gray agate helps to balance yin and yang energy as well as helps with emotional trauma.
Hematite: Like gray agate is very grounding and absorbs negative energy. Hematite brings a calming and cooling energy. It’s over 70% iron making it an ancient and natural healer for blood related disorders.
Silver Druzy: There are so many different kinds of druzy, which create a stunning and magical effect. Shimmering points are like a blanket across the gem, stimulating and amplifying the other crystals it is paired with.
Hemimoriphite: One of my newest obsession stones. Aids in spiritual growth and channeling light into your aura. In general, blue stones are associated with the 5th (throat) chakra and assisting in communication. This turquoise-y color is mesmerizing and falls in line perfectly with the Frozen-winter theme we had going. Hemimorphite is generally more expensive, so that is why we haven’t (yet) seen much of it- although I’m working on that!
Moonstone: Moonstone is another spectacular stone for new moon wishing, winter solstice and manifesting. (Our New Moon Wish bracelet is actually sold out! Hopefully coming back for 2015) It is also on the more expensive end. They say our secrets are locked behind the pearly veil and behind them lie our hidden truths. It’s been considered as an amulet as protection for travelers and stimulates dreams and bringing visions into reality. Moonstone is also a great stone for fertility.
Milk Glass: Opaque, translucent and creamy in color. It’s a manmade stone (but gorgeous at that!) and helps to scatter the light and reflect other stones and crystals. Blue Calcite: Love, love this raw light blue/periwinkle color. This is the largest stone on your winter day bracelet. Calcite amplifies and brings about calm, closely reminds me of blue lace agate. It stimulates trust in oneself and stabilizes the rhythm of the heart.
I truly hope you’ve enjoyed learning about your December Large Box jewels-so happy to see all the pics on social media of box subscribes showing off their eye (arm) candy party! If you’d like to receive a custom made gem bracelet or Third Eye Pinecone pendant, make sure to order your large box by 12/23!
